Purple Haze Cannabis Strain
About the Purple Haze Strain
You probably heard of this hybrid sativa-dominant strain from the Jimi Hendrix song that it was named after, but this hybrid Sativa leaning strain with a berry flavor appears to trace it’s roots back to the Haze strain crossed with the Purple Thai strain, to deliver a potent happy chatty high.
This purple hued strain gives you a fruity, berry taste that complements the mental stimulation you get from the buzz. This one packs a punch.
Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things don’t seem the same
Actin’ funny, but I don’t know why
‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky
Yep, you’ll know why. Definitely Purple Haze.
Purple Haze Strain and the Senses
The musky flavor of cannabis is undercut by the tangy sweet scent of berry, that serves as the source for the name of the Purple Haze strain. Once you break up or grind the nugs you’ll then note the herbal and spicey scents. The smoke is smooth and easy, with a sweet taste.
- Earthy, Musky
- Chemical: gasoline, diesel
- Wood: pine
- Fruity – berry
- Spicy and sweet
First off, it’s purplish. The medium to large nugs are shaped a little like a shovel, wide at the bottom, pointy at the top. They are loose like a sativa flower, with flowy light leaves that make it look like they’re fluffing out from the stem. While they have the purple coloring, they have the light mint green coloring. The pistils are also purple and this is all offset by the glistening, crystal-like sticky resin of the trichomes.
Possible Side Effects
This strain is not for the faint of heart. It gives a strong, fast, and continuous head and body high. While typically a happy, eurphoric and creative high, it can come on at a speed and strength that can be disorienting for novice users or those with existing concerns with paranoia and anxiety. Novice users should take it slow, and be prepared for a disorienting high.
- Dry mouth
- Dry eyes
Purple Haze Strain Uses
The quick onset with the gradual increasing and engaging of the body after the mind is lifted is exactly what makes this a popular choice for those seeking therapeutic value from medical marijuana. Because of the increased sensory stimulation and energized motor effects, this is a solid choice for mood disorders or attention deficit or distraction concerns. Because of the fast acting nature and the strength, this can be a disorienting effect, which is why it may not be the best choice for those with paranoia, active anxiety, or other conditions that may be exacerbated by the full sensory uplift.
- Mild Depression and stress, PTSD
- Loss of Appetite
- Anxiety – although proceed with caution
- Minor inflammation and pain, such as headaches, migraines, pms, cramps
Purple Haze Effect
The purple haze effect is ongoing, beginning with a head high and then continuing to an energizing body buzz. The potency of the strain serves to initially lift up the mood while engaging the mind in heightened sensory reception often resulting in deep thinking of enhanced conversations. As the buzz continues, the body begins to engage.
You’ll find your thinking may get a bit trippy or exaggerated as you jump from topic to topic and you start to see connections for ideas where there otherwise not have been obvious. This can be disorienting not only to the user, but to others around you. But either way, it’s energizing for the mind and body, and is a popular recreational choice especially for social situations. While it engages the creative mind, more experienced users may also find it useful for more detailed work, as well, as the body energy helps engage the mind, and vice versa.
Because it is a strong high that engages and enhances the mind body connection, it’s a good choice for activities that engage both. Despite the energizing effects, as they wear off you won’t experience a typical crash, so this isn’t a good choice if you’re planning to go to sleep afterwards.
Typical reported effects include:
- Happy, Euphoric, Uplifted
- Increased Creativity
- Somewhat relaxed, but still energized
- Increased sociability
- Heightened senses
Growing the Purple Haze Strain
It’s not easy to find seeds for the purple haze strain, so if you’re interested in growing this strain the best bet is from a clipping or clone. This is a hardy strain and one that’s fairly easy to grow, even for new growers. It can grow fine in a range of temperatures, with the idea being between 65-80. The care will require pruning and support for the colas because they do grow tall, which can be a concern for space limitations if grown indoors. To get the purple color you’ll lower the temperature during growing stages.
- Easy to grow
- Grows tall
- Flowering: 8-9 weeks
- Yield: High (outdoor has a higher yield)
If you’re looking for a powerful all around, mind body high, this is your choice. But be forewarned, it’s as powerful as it is tasty and pretty. Familiarize with the effects and take it slow if you’re new to stronger cannabis strains. Remember, this strain is more of an upper, so you will not have a crash, and you’ll remain energized, in mind and body, for a while.
